DECEMBER 2008  MISSIONS ACTIVITIES REPORT

BY

MIKE GARY

JANUARY 2, 2008

PRAISE NOTES

We are very thankful for our Word of Life Church and for the participation of our people in committed service for our Christ.  The offering of service was never more apparent than the occasions of our Christmas dramas presented by adults, youth, and children in both the Spanish and English services.  We are accustomed to our Spanish service doing an exceptional job with the dramas presented by all ages, but this year, we were presently surprised by the best drama ever presented in our English service.  The altar was crowded with people.  Our people in both services provided delicious Christmas meals to record attendance crowds.  I have to mention that our dance team called the Tambourine Ministry did a magnificent job of leading our Christmas services and praises.  There were shouts and hand claps from all parts of the building.  In all, although I say it every Christmas, it was the best Christmas ever.

Our attendance during the Holidays was down somewhat due to many people being away visiting relatives, but the services around the theme of Isa. 9:6 were outstanding.  The Sunday morning attendance averaged 335, the Sunday evening averaged 194, the Wednesday evening attendance average was 165.  Our English attendance averaged 85.

Mission Report December, 2009

Praise Note:  Getting to celebrate the birth of Christ with people we love

Activities:

The semester came to an end and I worked many hours grading final papers, projects and exams.  Wesley is also in the process of reaccreditation and the faculty is involved in rewriting objectives and preparing reports for the accreditation committee.

The Introduction to Missions class prepared a lengthy timeline of mission history from the first century to the current year.

Missionary Life and Work class prepared a missionary service for a church for their final project and each member of the class did very well.  The presentations were passionately done and well prepared.

Started the month out with a presentation to the newly formed Crestview CMC Kosciusko Ms. Rev. Jerry Meggs has always been a supporter of Belize missions and has shown his commitment to our work in Mexico with two volunteers to Monclova Mexico in October. Jim and Barbara Easterling were also in attendance. I presented Short Term missions for Belize and Mexico and Ms Barbara presented her WMU presentation. The church was very excited about our mission program and asked many questions on involvement in the work.

Pulling together the medical supplies for the medical mission was next in order. Dr. James Lewis and Dr. Lee Giffin made commitments to our supply list this year. We made the week with most of what was needed to treat the sicknesses within the villages. There was a lot of colds and flu this year in the villages and of course many of us on the team either got it that week or came home with flu or cold symptoms. The volunteers sick or not continued to work hard through the week and many people received care and compassion from the team anyway. We ministered to over 400 people during the week. Those we heard who were too sick to come to our site we visited took them medicine and prayed with them.

Report for November 2008

Note of praise:  The lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever

Activities:

This month classes began to be wrapped up.  Some of my mission students have been making mock prayer cards, writing hypothetical newsletters, practicing mock home meetings, and for their final they will hold a thirty minute mock missionary service.  As you can see it is a very practical class for the administrative side of being a missionary.

In another missions class we have been doing continent overviews and ended with Europe and the United states.  The spiritual decline here was sad to study about and the newest statistics are very depressing.  Prayer is needed for every place but is certainly needed here at home as well.

The missionary fellowship students have been having fundraisers and they are going pretty well.

October Report

Recruiting and fundraising were my priorities for the month of October. My goals for the month were to seek the funds and the people for two projects in Mexico for Border Missions. Also, recruit for the Hospital Annex construction trip to Belize.

With the Belize Medical Mission the first week in November I also had supplies to prepare and supplies to take to individual team volunteers. Dr. James Lewis of Lakeshore donated several boxes of medical supplies for the Midwives of Toledo District. These supplies had to be distributed among the volunteers to place in their luggage. I held a couple of individual meetings with team members to prepare for the trip.

I made six presentations for missions in East Texas for the month. I met with several of the pastors and leaders to plan for 2009 team projects in Mexico and participation in mission trips for Belize. I was very encouraged at the interest and commitment from the churches and leaders of East Texas Conference. I want to thank Rev. Mrs. Barbara Campbell and Mr. Clarence for opening up their home for me. It was a blessing to be able to go out from there to the different churches. Their warm hospitality helped make my task much easier and more successful. I also appreciate the facilities at Hilltop Camp that were available to me during my time in the conference. This was also a blessing.
